HEAR HEAR

I’ve heard some pretty horrible stuff from the Tories over the years.

Since the campaign for the referendum on Brexit, some of them have become quite frighteningly horrible. As Chris Patten and Ken Clarke have said, English Nationalists.

Under Johnson some of it was hard to listen to and made me ashamed that, for my sins, I am, at least passport wise, British.

I thought I had heard it all. Their treatment of people less fortunate than themselves has always sickened me, hurt me, made me angry.

But under Truss and her cabinet, it has moved to another level. I find it hard to take on board that we are living in this nightmare.

Braverman’s dream, her passion, is to see people being trafficked to a country with a poor reputation for human rights, to be housed in camps and processed…

Goodness, that sort of reminds me of something.

I want no part in a country like that.

So, I wholeheartedly stand by the first minister when she said that she detested the Tories and their policies.

Of course, Douglas Ross said that she had insulted all the people who voted Tory in Scotland.

She did not.

She didn’t say she detested Tories; she said she detested THE Tories. Like you, Douglas, seem to detest the EXTREMIST Greens.

We know that Tory policies in the 80s are what persuaded Nicola to go into politics, as Thatcher’s closures put vast numbers of people in her area on the dole and into poverty, with no real chance of finding alternative work for most of them.

Mr Ross, himself, has no compunction about calling the Greens extremists.

And I recall that, when he was first elected, he was asked what he would prioritise if he was prime minister for a day.

Not dealing with poverty, not sorting the lack of funding for essential services, not roads or policing .

No.

He was going to deal with Gypsy Travellers. Nice bloke.

And Her Right Honorable and Gallant Nobleness is not without fault either.

No need to pursue intellectual arguments, is there, your ladyship, when you can just put the boot in?

And still you wonder why we don’t like your party… nah, be honest, we detest your party.

  1. Just read a bit from the sun.
The good people of Wetherby have asked wetherspoons NOT to take over a pub in their town as it will only attract the Plebs and they don’t want rheir town contaminated.

That’s the english nationalists talking dangerously about their fellows but not tories.

The poor wee tim , a tory brexiteer, being asked to go away from the party of business as they don’t like his business.

The Nicola speech was full of promise and was level headed, it will require work but this generation will be the ones to see an independent Scotland, I hope I live to see it.

    1. Weatherspoons certainly aren’t the classiest of pubs and fine dining isn’t really what they do. So, I guess in a Tory seat they would be likely bring the tone of the place down.

      I always avoid them.

He was a great friend of Boris… also not that classy!!!

  2. A few months ago I listened to a radio programme which among other subjects covered the issue of asylum seekers (it would have been R4, I think). The presenter talked to a lady based in England who works with people seeking asylum or refugee status in Britain and some are in the country illegally. This lady had asked one group of young men from, I think it was Sudan, why they were so determined to get into England and their response had been that they were brought up to believe that England was the mother country and would look after them. Then just the other day on a TV programme a lady of Afro-Caribbean background said exactly the same thing, and she was a first or second generation immigrant, but that’s why they came to Britain. So folks, there you have it. It seems that England had sold herself as the motherland (with Victoria as the Great White Mother who loved everybody), and we non-English people should be jolly grateful for her continued motherliness, whether we’re legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, or just plain old Scots, Welsh or N Irish and whatever she does, she does for our own good. And if you believe that, you believe anything.

    1. LOL.

Yes, for many it is a country far away of which they know little, but in so many cases, as you say, the Brits made them Brits.

Of course many from the Caribbean came after the war to help out a country that had lost an awful lot of young men, and was desperately in need to people who could do the jobs they would have been doing had they not been killed by the Fascists.

      Odd that given today’s circumstances.

I’m all for returning people who are here illegally, but people who have the backbone and grit to do what so many of these people have had to do to get here, are just the kind of people we need.

I keep hearing of refugees who have come here as teens and who are now doctors or surgeons.

Maybe we should be encouraging them.

If only to upset Nigel Farage.

  3. Thanks for the Johnson link, Tris. And the ‘indignant outrage’ response. I’ve been taking a lot of flak from yoon friends for Nicola’s comment and how despicable she is for making such a ‘malicious’ outburst. Typical Scotnattery, they claim. We’re all a bunch of tartan bigots. Aye right, as we say. I now have the ideal response – and using at every opportunity.

      1. Love the bit where ‘If you buy a bond’ you can’t sell it back within a week of purchase.
The ‘Assest repricing’ has a wonderful ring about it, does it refer to the Pawnbrokers.

Saw a clip from the daily hail.
Sturgeon promises to hold an illegal referendum.

I listened to the spech and never heard that.
Thankfully I don’t purchase their propaganda, spin.

        1. I seem to recall that she said the opposite.

          Which is sensible.

An illegal referendum would create all sorts of problems.

On the other hand Trussolini said that no mater what the Supreme Court says, she will not allow a referendum.

          https://nation.cymru/news/watch-no-independence-referendum-even-if-supreme-court-judges-it-legal-says-liz-truss/

Then we could (and should) go ahead with it, because it would be Truss and not us who was in the wrong and illegal.

As usual, Truss is lying. No where, except in a throwaway remark, was once in a geriaction mentioned, but in the agreement is was noted that this referendum (2014) did not preclude referendums in the future.

Honestly, for the money she gets, you’d think she’d be a bit better at her job.

          1. The UK government could stop a referendum if they felt like it.

They could do it right now (or at any time they choose) with a clarification to the Scotland Act.

They could introduce a short bill that basically says, “the SC ruling is now voided because parliament has expressed its will to change the law “.

Either would be very difficult politically.

            1. Yes, Truss has said she will.

But goodness me, what a signal that sends out.

It we don’t like court ruling on anything, we simply ignore the court because we are above the law so look out judges because if we don;t like your rulings we will overturn them and make you look stupid.

Still, given that their reputation is at the bottom of the sewer underneath all the shit they have put in their rivers, I don’t suppose it would make a lot of difference.

Can’t help feeling events are running way out of gov’s control. UK really at mercy of Tory MPs putting pressure on Truss/Kwarteng to completely reverse their mini-budget. They likely have to do more than reverse it in order to calm the markets.

            Completely unreal.

            1. I guess that people’s confidence in the currency reflects people’s confidence in the government.

              Both at home and overseas.

No one can have much confidence in the government, and who could blame them.

They sacked the steadyish hand of the Treasury permanent secretary and now take their orders from Tufton Street.

              What did they expect?

A bit embarrassing for all the people who said … ah… you said that the pound had tanked, but hey, it recovered.

I’ve been talking to people around here some in 70s and 80s and none has ever seen this kind of mess before.

Bit by bit the serious minds in the Tory party have been replaced with people who haven’t a clue.

Every party has its brains and its fruit loops. Bit by bit, the brains of the Tories have done a bunk and whether by choice or because there is no one else left, she has had to promote the fruit loops.

The collateral damage from the “mini” budget rolls on. We’ve long since morphed from May’s “strong and stable” soundbites and, judging by the Bank of England’s latest bailout, landed on terrain which makes jelly seem wobble proof.

  4. The contrived outrage being expressed by the Anglo establishment and it’s media outlets is a similar response to what Putin did in Ukraine yesterday.
Both born out of desperation from a weak position seeking to regain lost momentum.
Putin knows he is losing the war and the Anglo establishment likewise realise that their propaganda no longer works against the majority of Scots.
Our FM is a world class political leader unlike most of the lightweights we have had and continue to see supposedly representing a United Kingdom whose importance on the global stage continues to diminish.
The Tories are not only despicable but also desperate as they see their hold over Scotland disappearing no matter what their Supreme Court decides this month.

    1. Absolutely.

Headline grabbing nonsense from the Tories.

She said THE Tories, not Tories, so all the snowflakes who are crying that the FM hates them are havering.

No wonder Michael Howard banned the word Tory form the party (with no success)

      https://www.etymonline.com/word/tory

It just seems hard to me yo believe that anyone could possibly not detest them… unless, somehow THEY were managing to make a lot of money from the utter chaos the government in Britain is causing.

  5. I detest the Tory scum and the vast majority of their voters. I have never in all me life met a Tory scum voter
Who at bottom want a racist (even in my own family).

A truth may unpleasant but it’s still the truth.

The problem with you tris is I feel that if Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 was full with anyone from any nation (but obviously not England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿)

Who then voted for Indy you would be the happiest man in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿/ Poland/lativia / Romania etc 😃

As long as you achieved Indy the fact Scotland would no longer Scotland
Wouldn’t bother you over but .

I’m not against controlled immigration to benefit both Scotland and the incoming migrant .

But not at the expense of the existing Scottish Citizens regardless of ethnicity or religion.

A free unlimited entry to Scotland For me is a step to far .
And many voters will take that in consideration in any Indy vote .

    1. I can see your point.

But it’s not like everyone from across the world wants to come and live in a cold wet place like Scotland.

Being in the EU also of course, means that we can go to Europe… and a lot of us have. Even on this wee blog, Tatu, John, DonDon, Terry, for example, are Scots who live in Europe.

It’s unfair and unreasonable to say that I would welcome people from all over, but not from England.

That’s nonsense. I lived in England for 12 years. I have a lot of English mates from school and uni. and some of my favourite people are English.

What I don’t like is that we rarely vote for the same things as England does. Nothing wrong with that. Their country; their choices. But then we have that choice imposed upon us.

Someone pointed out the other day that The Tories have never been elected in Scotland and their predecessor, the Scottish Unionists (with Ireland) were last elected here before most of us were born.

We don’t want their policies, even if, for a brief time when people believed the lies about the fishing and farming benefits of Brexit, they had a small revival. The next election (2 years later), they lost more than half their seats and predictions are that they will lose the rest in the next election.

And still, they will be our government.

  6. Thanks again, Tris, for the latest link. It’s already been pressed into service. Also for ‘Trussolini’. Why didn’t I think of that with such supposed skills in wordplay? No matter. I will shamelessly borrow for my own scribblings.

Bulgarian energy regulator has cut October gas prices by a third. And we’re the poorest country in Europe!?! Any chance of an encore at your end? No, I didn’ think so.

I have to admit that the Trussolini was seen elsewhere and borrowed by me. Actually I had a mind it was you… but clearly not.

Clearly the Bulgarian government is more mindful of the misery of being cold in your house than the government of Britain.

      World beating misery.

  7. If you have a look at the demographics of population you will find that the older residents are dying off and being replaced by younger residents, just as normal.
I think the number of ‘foreign’ yes voters have little significant effect on the result.

Meantime the unionists are trashing the economic future of all of the uk.
The coffey this morning spoke of ‘Statistical Anomolies’ when asked about lifting benefits in line with the CPI.

Have a look at the calculation of the CPI. The latest list says that the change in housing costs are very low, and fuel prices are falling compared to last month.
Big worry for compaany pensioners is that their rate rise might be zero as the bond market is in trouble.

But Coffey seems to give not one stuff about poor people.

He was an unpleasant DWP minister and now she’s an unpleasant health minister.

Heaven knows what’s going to happen to the NHS this winter with a return to covid, flu and nurses strikes.

  8. Added to the ancient computer systems in the DWP problems.

It is reported that 551,000 UC claimants are not getting the £326 cost of living grant.

Why?, they earned too much in the 30 day DWP computer accounting period as they get paid weekly so they got 2 extra days pay. Temporarily too much pay at the cut off date.

What a country the englanders run, hopefully the Scottish system hasn’t been effected.

  10. Tried watching the court case today, gave up as the performance was so uninspiring.
It was like the lawyer was not actually the author of her case, just working through a sory book.
Might as well have been reading a Thomas the Tank engine, that would have been more interesting.

Yea dry stuff but it could have been made with a bit more enthusiasm.

I hear that her performance is atrocious, maybe she didn’t write her own script, can’t imagine anyone being allowed to make a good case in this scenario, the British state can be quite persuasive I bet. It’s going to be a big fat ‘no’. Back in your box Scotland.

What a waste of time that westmonster is.
Ask a question like ‘what is the time’?

    Answer
I don’t hear you talking about the libdems policy on the economy
I won’t take any lessons from the SNP on the economy, the Scottish economy is tanking.

All done in the best possible taste, honorable lady.
No comebacks allowed, the levers of power on the economy is with westmonster, they’re tanking the economy.

Pity the mps can’t sort themselves out, the next question is from the government party so they don’t know who will be next.
A system that allows divertion and lying by omission.
