DON’T VOTE LABOUR

Look at what you will get

Lifelong Labour supporter, voter and Guardian journalist looks at what Labour has become under Starmer and how many lies Sir Keir told to get the job of leader… at a time when Jeremy Corbyn had massively increased the Labour membership with younger people joining up in droves.

“!During and after Corbyn’s leadership election, there was a large increase in the number of Labour Party members; from 201,293 on 6 May 2015 (the day before the 2015 general election) to 388,407 on 10 January 2016” according to Wikipedia.

Starmer needed to persuade them that the party he would lead would be similar to the one led by Corbyn.

Once he got the job he started to dismantle his leadership “manifesto”.

Since Corbyn’s departure and Starmer’s U-turns, there has been a decrease in membership.

This is a powerful conversation for a lifelong member of the party. Owen joined, as he points out in the video, when he was 15.

It’s nearly 25 minutes long, but, in my opinion, it is worth the time. His claims are backed by video footage of total reversals of policy.

            1. I’m sorry Conan. I don’t know what’s wrong with WordPress.

A lot of people have had trouble recently.

              Promise it’s nothing I’ve done.

It was irritating before, but to get rid of the ads, I had to start paying for the site. Now I’m paying for something that sometimes doesn’t work

I’ll have to check spam daily form now on.

              Once again, sorry, Conan.

            2. I was wondering where you’d got to Conan, because I’ve been seeing posts from you at the Grauniad.

Been having issues posting on WordPress myself; especially when there’s a link involved.

      1. yeah ! Pretend left or as I say a fairer society . Get elected (power) then move rightward betray all the promises you made .

baubles, glittering prizes , honours and then job in the City or some such.(just like the snp)

I had always voted Labour even when I started to hold my nose and look the other way .

        but after Jeremys defenestration

gave up ⬆️ threw in the towel and walked away.. sadly very sadly.

I myself am in good position / not a great one . but what about the generations to come.

seems to me we are in a doom loop back to the Dickensian view of life/ society.

        Labour support for Isreal ???

there is a terrorist in that street answer kill everybody in that street.

        1. Not sure how many SNP have got baubles, honours, prizes or jobs in the city, Niko.

Can I ask you (and I absolutely understand if you tell me to mind my own business) do you, instead of voting Labour, abstain, vote for someone else, or spoil your paper?

If I were in England, I think I’d vote for a Green.

            1. OK. Thank you.

I accept that when your party walks away form you, it must be difficult to find a new home.

I like a lot of green policies, but some seem to me to be OTT.

In multiple choice elections I vote for them second.

It seems that there is more and more support for them throughout the UK.

              I truly admire Caroline Lucas.

                1. Interesting. Some points

I’d have liked to see a question about why th north of Ireland can, by international treaty (no matter what Starmer says) have a referendum every 7 years, and clearly Scotland can’t.

As far as I am aware Québec has not had a referendum every 3 or 4 years.

I don’t think that Scotland and England (and I don’t know enough about Wales to comment) are the same country. We don’t vote the same way and haven’t for a fair amount of time. We didn’t vote the same way over Europe.

And that brings us to the question of Europe. When Britain decided to leave Europe, no one else in the EU had a say. Why would the rest of the Uk have a say in Scotland’s future in or out of the union.

While on the subject of the EU referendum, and Scottish referendum, what they have in common is that numerous lies were told in both cases and, as the majorities in both cases were relatively small, the outcomes may well have been influenced by these lies.

Very little of what we were promised by the Brits in either case ever came to fruition.

I’m not sure how a state leaves the USA. In theory they can’t, but it would be interesting to find out …Danny?
Spain certainly blocks any of their territories from leaving… and uses violence to stop it, including police beating elderly people. That’s something that Lisa Nandy thought should happen in Scotland, nice socialist that she is!

        2. Despite the self-delusions of Starmer’s fanboys (and fangirls like Pollyanna Toynbee) who claim that Sheer Stumer will be more ‘radical’ when in office, no Labour government has ever moved leftwards after getting into power; all of them have ‘triangulated’ to the right, even Attlee’s.

Still, at least they’re not in power yet: we’ve suffered their incompetence and arrogance down here for 25 years in the Senedd – and for several generations in local government before that – and our new FM is enmeshed in scandal through donations from dodgy businessmen and union vote stitch-ups before he’d even been handed the job. And he’s even more a puppet of London than Duckfoot was.

          1. I was hoping you might comment on the new FM, Nigel.

I take it that you are less than impressed.

I know you didn’t like Drakeford, but in fairness he was a lot better than any of the half wits we have had here, with the possible exception of Dewar, who at least knew how to sort of stand up to Blair…and from what I read of Lance Price’s book, gave Blair some sleepless night.

I reckon that one of their problems in Wales (correct me if I’m wrong) is that they know they will be in power. I mean the Tories aren’t going to win and Plaid seem far from that stage too.

            So who else is there?

They were like that in Scotland too, until they weren’t,

            Courage, mon brave.

            1. Gething is a serial incompetent and a shining example of how BritNat Labour assiduously promotes loyal mediocrities. He also has a lousy attitude to scrutiny, and is even more of a good little servant of the ‘union’ than Drakeford.

Plaid are all talk, and will always keep minority Labour administrations in office rather than seek to bring them down. Their ‘co-operation agreement’ has to be ditched immediately if they are to have any credibility with the electorate, many of whom are waiting for someone, anyone to unhorse the ‘comrades’. If they don’t, then the far-right Brit ‘populists’ will be the beneficiaries.

              1. Do you think there is any chance of that? What is the feeling in the country? It used to be quite strong, in some areas, as far as I remember.

Presumably there will have to be some ceremony to install Willie as your prince. How, do you reckon, is that going to play?

  1. Just musing but I am wondering if the long interview Owen recently conducted with Humza had anything to do with this epiphany????

A leader delivering on his promises within the limitations of the Scotland Act and the fiscal settlement

    1. I didn’t see that interview, Stewart.

Within the limitations of the Scotland Act, the current government has been far more “socialist” than New Labour.

I’m sure he’s been considering this for a long time, but maybe our left of centre policies may have impressed him.
