The late Neil Aslen who was a forensic accountant wrote a few articles rubbishing the annual GERS creative accounting using information obtained from the Treasury.
Click to access the_great_obfuscation_gers_2006.pdf
He had MI5 at his door demanding to know where he obtained classified document in one of his articles as he must be in possession of leaked documents from the Treasury. The figures showed that Scotland far from being the poor cousin was actually quite wealthy. Neil suggested that perhaps the Chancellor of the Exchequer of the time, a chap named Gordon Brown be arrested as all the information is on the Treasury website for all to see. It was removed pronto.

According to Tax Expert Richard Murphy the highest deficit in Europe belongs to Romania at around 4%. If Scotland is running a higher deficit then all that shows it that being part of the UK is hindering us since with respect we have a far stronger economy than Romania.
GERS is a sideshow but of course it will be horrendous this year. We’ll have been charged a share of the crony capitalism sweetheart deals for Tory friends and family, furlough will have increased costs and decreased revenue.
The Scottish government should be pointing out all the flaws with GERS, it’s not like Kate Forbes isn’t able enough to spot them. Even if she was, Prof Murphy amongst others has detailed them.
I’m just going to ignore all the MSM screeching and look forward to Thurday’s MNR special for International Orangutan Day!

A share of the £37 billion for a useless track and trace that we didn’t use?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well apparently it’s £36.3 billion deficit. That’s virtually the cost of the Track and Trace system, not used in Scotland, that didn’t actually track nor trace. Right I’m away, that’s as much of my time that this farce deserves, indeed more!

Have a look at the Scottish Grant.
No wonder I can’t get very far due to the piles of pounds lying around wasted by the SNP.
The deficit is over twice the ‘Grant’.
Richard Murphy’s article gives an understanding of where just the little ‘lie’ is. Earnings by english companies are taxed in england not Scotland, just for a start.
The Americans are now calling the idea, Bezzled.

I’ve always thought that the tax on the profits of Tesco, B&Q, Morrisons, ASDA, etc, are counted as income in England because that is where they are registered for vat (and presumably other taxes.
But it is our money that is spend in their shops.
That’s idiotic.

A lot of expenditure is spent outwith Scotland on our behalf by the UK Civil Service so you would assume any tax paid by the civil servants salaries should be credited to Scotland but it doesn’t as they don’t have a Scottish tax code…………
When you go to the petrol pump to fill your car up the duty paid isn’t all credited to Scotland, it is where the petrol companies excise paying office is located, mostly in England. We could pick holes in the GERS figures all day. Statistics, statistics and damn lies is the old saying.

Iain Leng or Lang or something, another of their noblemen, bragged in a memo to John Major, that it was designed to make Scotland look bad.
Obviously it didn’t occur to his Nobleness that we had economists here.

I remember that fool winning an election in Galloway and saying “And that’s a double whammy” only in Leng’s bizarre accent it came out as “End thet’s a dabble wemmee”.

“Lies, damned lies and statistics”, wasn’t it? I like statistics; you can make numbers dance to your bidding. I had a report to do as part of my university course, to do with interpretation of statistics, that had to be presented to prove a certain point; I – just for a laugh – also presented a second one, using the same data, that proved the opposite. I have a very useful Pelican book called “How To Lie With Statistics”.

Yes idiotic but designed to make their propaganda message.
The North sea oil and gas revenues are allocated on a Population Basis not where they are recovered from.
They even charge us extra for connecting the windfarm electicity generation to feed the english power demand.
DVLA taxes and vehicle taxes.
TV tax
St Clair oil and gas isn’t landed in Scotland, straight into tankers and delivered to englandland.
No local taxes are paid for MOD facilities.
Scottish whisky exports are sent out through english ports.
Wondering when we are going to see the GERE figures.

Unfortunately many of the, ‘we cannae be bothered finding onything oot’ brigade, just hear the word deficit on the MSM and take it as further confirmation that Scotland can’t afford to stand on its own. I’m pretty certain this is true because I know some of them and all attempts to give them information to the contrary has met with failure because they just won’t read it.
There’s a huge array of forces arrayed against us, not least of which is half our population and we have a divided YES Movement plus zero strategy. I’ve never felt so negative about our prospects as I do right now so apologies for the downer, but even the annual righteous GERS anger can’t cut through it this time.

Not all those twitter accounts you block are genuine. Manufactured political trolls by some establishment entities. They feel threatened.

Patel asks for Europe to take in more Afghans like the uk has promised to, kick the can, it’s a 5 year programme.
Just a thought, Why would you evacuate from Afghanistan to englandland by a flight that takes 8 hours when you could take them to a closer destination at a higher rate?, the aircraft then takes another 8 hours to go back.
The flounder says the Afghan 20 year programme was a success.

British man jailed in Singapore for refusing to wear face mask
A court in Singapore has sentenced a British man to six weeks in prison for refusing to wear a face mask in public.
Benjamin Glynn, 40, was found guilty on four charges after he refused to put on his mask on a train in May and then again at a court hearing in July.
He was also convicted of causing a public nuisance and using threatening words towards public servants.
The judge had ordered a psychiatric assessment of him following the remarks he made in court, according to news outlet CNA.
Glynn responded by asking for the “unlawful” charges to be dropped and his passport returned to him so he could travel back to the UK.
But the judge said he was “completely misguided” in thinking he could bypass local coronavirus laws on mask wearing.
Singapore has only recently emerged from strict lockdown measures.

Just saw that Rory Stewart did a programme on Afghanistan based on his experience of being there.
A study of the history of the Afghan wars and the deals that were struck to walk away looking as if the british had won the wars.
His take was that it was foolish to interfere there as it is tribal quarrels like between a married couple, you end up with both forming an alliance against you.

The end of Kipling’s public-school story “Stalky & co.” bears that out; regarding the tribalism, at least. I like Kipling; he was a good observer, although he was a supporter of the Empire – until his son was killed in WW1.
