Another day of interviews and tv/radio appearances, each one direr than the last.
Gove was asked about self-assessing eye health and specifically, had he ever driven 60 miles to check that his eyesight was good enough to drive 250 miles. He started to say he had and then realised halfway through how utterly ridiculous that was and tried various and sundry other tacks till the interviewer put him out of his misery. But he was hauled over the coals several times over it.
I’m wondering what Cummings has on all of them that is strong enough, that they are scared enough about that they are prepared to make utter fools of themselves over it.
Another minister (Hancock) said that it was possible that those people who were fined for being out and about on childcare matters during the lockdown in England might have to have their fines returned to them because, presumably, it wasn’t illegal to be out and about for childcare purposes… But then Downing Street rejected Hancock’s suggestion! There’s an article here, but fair warning, it’s in the Daily Mail.
I wonder who it was that did the vetoing!!!
In Scotland, Douglas Ross resigned from the non-job of Under Secretary of State on the basis that he could not support Cummings, given that so many of his constituents had had similar kinds of problems and not broken the law. When Downing Street was asked for a comment on the ministerial resignation, a “source” said in that diplomatic way that we have come to expect of the British government, that Ross was “a nobody”.
I wonder who that source was!!!
One of the interesting things I thought of today was… who will replace Mr Ross? Suggestions on a postcard to Munguin.
How long will this go on? What will the government find that can distract the press, even the friendly press from this? They can’t have a royal wedding. It would mean people coming from all over. They can’t have a royal birth…even royals take time to manage that. A war is probably out of the question and we don’t have earthquakes of any size in the UK.
I guess they could ask Phil to make the ultimate sacrifice, but why should he? He’s half Greek and half Danish.

The damage has been done. It merely proves what a lot of us have thought for a long while that the U.K Government is made up of liars, chancers and no-hopers, who would fail in any other branch of life. This bunch of charlatans have been totally exposed, and unfortunately a lot of people have died because of their incompetence, with probably more to follow. It no longer matters what happens with Cummings because the utter shambles that exists in No. 10 Downing Street is there for all to see, and anyone who tries to defend any aspect of this farrago is merely delaying the inevitable, which hopefully will leave the tories fatally wounded. The last sentence is wishful thinking, because they will take any action, including getting rid of Boris, to stay in power.

The Cabinet has just be compared to Cirque du Soleil on Twitter as they send out minister after minister to bend themselves and their stories to any kind of shape to get the press off their back.
The bloke this morning on Radio 4… Never heard of him before, but bloody hell he was BAD, even by their standards.
People, he said, don’t want to hear about this, they care more about housing which I’m working on…
Nah, they don’t. For a start, that’s only in England, and secondly, you people have been supposed to be doing something about housing for the last 10 years… and squat!
So, point is… do you think people should go to Specsavers, or take a 60 mile drive to see the bluebells when they have potential eye damage?

The family of a Conservative MP have been reminded of the coronavirus lockdown guidelines following reports police broke up an illegal birthday party at his house.
Delyn MP Rob Roberts confirmed his family were “reminded of the guidance set out by the government”, which still currently forbids people to visit others in their homes.

Managing director of the Sizewell C project, Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson, said it would “kick-start the economy following the coronavirus crisis”.
He said the 3.2GW plant would generate enough “always-on” low-carbon electricity to power six million homes, creating 25,000 jobs and 1,000 apprenticeships during construction.
EDF Energy added the scheme would reduce the need for imported energy.
Mr Cadoux-Hudson said: “Sizewell C is a net-zero infrastructure project ready to kick-start the economy following the coronavirus crisis.
“The project will play a key role in lowering emissions while helping the UK keep control of its low carbon future.”
Sizewell C would be a near replica of the under-construction Hinkley Point C in Somerset, reducing construction costs and risks, according to EDF.
The plant, which has a projected lifetime of sixty years, has an estimated construction cost of between £19.6 billion and £20.3 billion. The National Audit Office estimates the additional cost to consumers (above the estimated market price of electricity) under the “strike price” will be £50 billion, which “will continue to vary as the outlook for wholesale market prices shifts Financing of the project is still to be finalised, but the construction costs will be paid for by the mainly state-owned EDF of France and state-owned CGN of China.
A legacy of cameron, BUTT doris is saying he won’t be depending on China or France.
Love the bit about low carbon generation and being there to restart the economy, yes during the built time of 5 years, I think France has still to get theirs running.

Nuclear power stations are not “always-on” and require to be taken off line for maintenance when required,more frequently as they age.
If there was a truly free energy market in the UK of E,Scotland wouldn’t pay for this very expensive electricity since we are approaching an excess of cheap renewable energy.
However,rigging the market via artificially inflated National grid transmission charges means that we undoubtedly will.

It might be nice to clip Dominic Cummings wings and get him out of no.10…but what then? He won’t go away. He’ll still be there working in the shadows. Something tells me we’re better off having him in plain sight.
The only way now that he can be safely moved on is if Boris and his cabinet of yes-men all go too.
I don’t see the men in grey suits, the 1922 committee, having the stomach for that right now

I think he has to “get Brexit done”. I think ditching him (and that) would split the Tories in two.
Cameron started the split with his referendum; May widened it with her “strong and stable, Brexit means Brexit” mess… and this “thing” and his puppet master and doing it even more damage.
The only thing that keeps it together is the fanatics desire to “get Brexit done” and Johnson is the only one who’s stupid enough to press forward with that at the moment.
