RANDOM THOUGHTS

Hard to take this in. But apparently, it’s not that unusual on the streets of London, where, according to Mike Dailly’s Tweet, a homeless person dies on average every couple of weeks. This, as the post says, in supposedly one of the richest and most advanced cities in the world.

Much has been made of the fact that in October one of Andrew Saxe-Coburg Gotha’s daughters is getting married. She is styled and titled Her Royal Highness, Princess Eugenie of York. She is apparently 9th in line to the throne and has absolutely not the remotest chance of getting it. She does no public duties at all. She does, however, go on a LOT of holidays. It is her claim to fame.

However, she has decided that she wants an open carriage procession through Windsor, just like her cousin Harry (5th in line) got.

As far as I’m concerned she can have open carriage processions through Bratislava, Nuuk, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Oymyakon (Siberia) if she wants. Just the same as anyone else can if they have the money. The trouble is that this princess and her pushy father, Airmiles Andy, the Fat Old Duke of York, wants us to pay for all the security that will involve, at a cost of around £2 million.

I have no idea how much the royal family is worth but I bet that they can afford to pay for this nonsense themselves, and when people are dying of poverty on the streets of London, I find it offensive that the government is prepared to spend that much money on some spoiled posh girl whose claim to fame is going on holiday.

The usual, “oh, but think of the money that it will bring in in tourism in London” won’t wash with this one. I doubt if many people have even heard of her and I shouldn’t think that most people are in the least interested in her nuptials.

What do you think?

I doubt many people would argue that Theresa May is the worst Prime Minister in living memory… and probably a good deal before.

She’s a dithering, wobbly, weak, croaky, cartoon character, who has no control of her party or of her MPs or of her orange-coloured bedfellows in the DUP.

She’s at odds with everyone, here, in Europe and in the USA.

She is utterly USELESS. My granny’s cat could do a better job and he’s dead.

And yet, despite all that, Corbyn comes in a poor second to her in a Yougov poll for the best person to be prime minister. It’s interesting that the most popular vote was NEITHER of them.

And just when we needed leadership more than we have needed it for 70 years.

Thanks for BJSAlba for this one.

It’s disappointing to see a second EU referendum being sold as a “democratic right”. If these groups care about democracy they’ll listen to the voice of the people, clearly expressed in 2016- to leave the EU!

Stephen Kerr is Conservative MP for Stirling, in Scotland.

Scotland voted 62% -38% to remain in the EU. Stirling voted 67%- 33%.

That’s two-thirds of his constituents.

Still, the English and Welsh voted to leave so … sod the people of Stirling.

Mr Kerr’s other claim to fame is, as a high-ranking member of the Mormon Church, yes, I know we’re not supposed to call it that any more, he outed gay members. The Mormons are homophobic, it seems, except, of course, when they use a gay person to get elected to a high paid job.

I hope Stirling remembers that when the next election comes along.

    1. I wonder how much they are charging for tickets for one of his Comedy shjows he will be doing during the four day visit. Either way it will undoubtedly be a complete waste of money I reckon.

  1. The UK (England) is rapidly reverting to type.
Forelock tugging subservience to a wealthy elite who have complete
    control over them.
It is as if the welfare state never existed and anyone who tries to remind people of that system is pilloried by the media controlled by the elite.
Even my royalist supporting spouse is appalled at this misuse of public money.
Off with their heads I say.
    Vive la revolution.

    1. Actually, the best way to get rid of them (and that will NEVER happen in the UK) is for them to be profligate with our money.

Spend £2 million on a vanity ride for some minor royal while people are starving and dying on the streets. Show them up for what they are.

The way for them to win respect is for them to do the exact opposite of this. A quiet wedding for a few family and friends and donate what WOULD have been spent by the state and the royals, to a homeless charity or charities.

    1. I wonder how many will. I mean, who would even know her, except hotel people in the posher resorts of the world?

She is a professional holiday maker best known for her ridiculous hats.

I suppose there will be royalist organisations knocking people up to wave their aprons at her, and of course, being delighted to contribute to a wedding fund for one of the richest families in the country, while others starve.

  2. just announced on media
Who would have thought that this would happen?
Sir Norman Bettison will not face prosecution for his part in blaming the fans at Hillsburgh in 1989.
There’s insufficient evidence says the CPS.
His match commander, just plain Mr Duckenfield, will no doubt in the fullness of time also have the charges dropped, due to lack of evidence.
In the meantime we hear of rough sleepers dying, during a hot summer, what will it be like when winter comes.
But by then we’re due another royal birth, another wedding and a state funeral for the chookie, he got a new knee at 90 plus, but a friend in Yorkshire at 80 was told “it’s not worth the bother at your age”
    On the scotrail trail.
I’ve just had a week of escorting Australian relatives around their parents Scotttish homeland.
What was their take on our travels?
The central belt train service was great, good information from staff, timings were as good as you can get, carriages and toilets were clean, route information was given to help their progress.
They particularly welcomed seeing the station signage in the Gaelic, I had given them a piece from the DUG’s site which helped with the source of the names.
The new bridge was a delight as I had told them it was built on budget and only slightly delayed due to the poor winter.
They’ve gone home with a positive view of Scotland and the people we met during our trips out and their own wanderings to Edinburgh.
They know about the indy versus republic debate, they’re all for Aus going republican.
In the meantime the media continues to tell us we ‘re genetically unsuited to govern ourselves.

    1. Doubtless the file containing the evidence was mysteriously lost, as were all the files in the Home Office relating to child abuse by those and such as those.

Of course these people will never be prosecuted.

It simply wouldn’t do, old chap. It’s not the British way.

What’s that you say, another royal baby to feed and house? How jolly.

And the BBC and the rest of the media and of course, the Labour Party, has gone to town on the SNP (or more accurately Scottish Enterprise) for giving grants to an arms firm to encourage diversification out of arms into something else, thereby keeping the jobs.

Needless to say, no one seems to have realised that Carwyn Jones has been meeting with the same company in Wales.

I’m glad your friends found the trains good. Scotrail is the best train service in the UK.

Signage in Gaelic is a tourist attraction, even if the Gaels can understand the English names. My Hungarian friends were enchanted with it.

Of course, the only thing that is good for tourism, according to some people, is another royal wedding.

      Go, the Republic of Australia.

      1. Notice Harris in his report lauding Scotrail as the way to go for England.
        However…….
Only, apparently if it is privately run.
Scotrail is run by a state owned service,Arbelio just not our state.
So,it is OK for enterprises to be state run, according to Harris, just so long as they aren’t owned by the UK state.
Well,I have a great deal of sympathy for that view given the continuing complete incompetence of the UK state.

    1. Also what is going on to the left of Tankgirl & the weirdo with an overbite not seen since Dwayne Dibley days?

      1. Vestas, you got me to look again at the pic of Ruthie and pal (thanks, I don’t think!). Anyway, the guy on the left seems to be holding a tripod but the fellow to his right looks as if he’s about to use a blowtorch on the other guy’s face – it’s probably the sort of thing that goes on at Tory rallies. By the way, looking (reluctantly) at Ruth Davidson and Stephen Kerr, there is an uncanny resemblance between them – look at the teeth, the eyes, the hairstyles. There is a terrifying possibility that the Tories are cloning Ruth Davidson – Eek!

Sort of a shame really, could start a “sword to the groin” meme 😛

!/ Have you had a nice day here in ********town?

2/ Have the SNP done anything bad today?

3/ Did the SNP do anything bad yesterday>

4/ On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad are the SNP?

        5/ How’s Treeza?

6/ Thank you very much Ruth Davidson for agreeing to take part in this hard interview.

7/ Remember viewers…. Vote for the Ruth (less) Party

  3. I was actually quite shocked to learn that the USA has state pensions at all, never mind higher than ours. Doesn’t it just reek of Un-American Activities and suchlike? Barely a step away from Communism if you ask me …

… and since I lived for a good while by Stirling, I was equally shocked to learn that the good buggers … err burgers … of that place elected a Tory. Shocked and ashamed by association.

    1. You could always pretend that you lived near Dundee. The last time they elected a Tory it was Florence Horsburgh and the second war was yet to start.
