Ending the year with an excellent selection Tris. I do hope Munguin appreciates all the great work you did this year, we Mungunites certainly do, see you all again next year. 🙂

Cheers Gerry.
Munguin is certainly an employer who is generous with both praise and remuneration.
He said “not too bad”, and handed me a 50p piece. So I’m a bit pleased with myself right now!
Have a good one… 🙂

Those were adorable – elephants and fox cubs so lovely. And some gorgeous great apes! Delighted to hear we can afford a New Year and that Soppy Sunday – oops MNR – will continue.
Happy New Year when it comes and Lang May Yir Lum Reak (or something!).

Happy New Year wishes to all MR readers, contributors, and the entire staff at Munguin Towers.
Let’s do all five verses this year. What do you say?….. 😉
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne*?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak’ a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint-stoup!
and surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak’ a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We twa hae run about the braes,
and pou’d the gowans fine;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin’ auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We twa hae paidl’d in the burn,
frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin’ auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere!
and gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak’ a right gude-willie waught,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS

Well, I don’t suppose Munguin will be asked to choose, but we could do worse.

Well, Danny, it hands across the seas between us braid, roaring or not, to wish you a happy 2018…

Hmm, flattered that Number One has copied my hair-style and colour – no wonder he looks sad! Thought I’d take this opportunity to send best wishes to Munguin’s motley crew in the hope that 2018 and the following years will be the happiest years of your lives! I’m sending it just now as I’ve found that typing and Talisker are not an effective combination so one of them had to be sacrificed. Slainte mhath, a charaidean!

Best Wishes to you and your Mum, Tris, and to Munguin who I sincerely hope will at least offer to wash the dishes tomorrow and give you a break. If he doesn’t then give him a telling off from me – yachts, grannies an’ a’ that!
Many thanks for all the lovely photos you post for us and for the effort you put in to keeping your blog so well worth visiting every day.
Happy, Prosperous and Healthy 2018 to everyone.

Hi JoMac.
Thanks for your kind words.
Munguin was somewhat taken aback. I had to explain the concept of him doing dishes…
Just been to see Mum. She’s cheerful and eating a little; definitely on the mend.
Happy New Year, from all of us.

Tae ane an’ aw, baith great an’ sma,

A guid New Year to ane an’ aw’
An’ mony may ye see,
An’ durin’ aw’ the years tae come,

O time flies past, it winna wait,
My friend for you or me,
It works its wonders day by day,
And onward still doth flee.
O wha can tell when ilka ane,
I see sae happy here,
Will meet again and merry be
Anither guid New Year.
Chorus:
We twa ha’e baith been happy lang.
We ran about the braes.
In yon wee cot beneath the tree,
We spent oor early days.
We ran aboot the burnie’s side,
The spot will aye be dear,
An’ those that used to meet us there,
We’ll think on mony a year.
Chorus:
Noo let us hope oor years may be
As guid as they ha’e been,
And trust we ne’er again may see,
The sorrows we ha’e seen.
And let us wish that ane an’ a’

May aye enjoy in times tae come

A BIG “Thanks!”, Tris for all your hard work and creativity in giving us so much fun and information in 2017 and, of course, hats off to His Specialness, Munguin, your enlightened and munificent employer, lavish dispenser of 50ps and figurehead of the Republic! All the best to you and your Mum and Munguin and also to all other followers of Munguin who find delight in their visits here. May 2018 bring all of you peace, health and happiness and may it take our wonderful wee land closer to the independence it so badly needs and richly deserves. A’ the best!

Shucks, Andi.
You guys say the nicest things… and I’m not very good at replying.
I’m all the way with you… Just think in a few years’ time we could be independent and away from this ridiculous country of Earls and Dukes, princes and barons and looking to improve the lot of people who don’t have titles.
Thanks, too, for all your wisecracks during the year, Andi.
All the best for 2018!

“The Brits are killing off badgers at huge cost and for no discernable reason.”
Yes, for anti-science and pro-farming reasons, but sadly the next species pictured is also under severe threat, this time from the environmentally and ecologically destructive grouse shooting industry, but for similar reasons.

The sooner Scotland puts an end to driven shooting of any kind, the better.

Absolutely agreed, Marco. Why people can derive pleasure from killing is beyond me. That they should be allowed to do it for sport is barbaric.
