  1. … and, economically and politically, “Britain” has become even more unequal than ever, with the rich laughing all the way to their offshore banks, and the poor weeping as they drag their starving kids along to the food banks.

    1. Oh yes… the list (which I saw on Twitter) is not complete. There are many other things that have made life for ordinary people much more miserable, and for the rich, much more agreeable.

    2. When you add the squeeze on wages to this it’s even worse. It’s just another example of what a bunch of greedy, self serving, short sighted gits the Torys are. It’s a case of a bird in the hand, because they just cannot see that a population with disposable income is good for everyone, including them.

      Twats!

      1. And I think we need to add the squeeze on benefits. They used to go up by inflation. Cameron stopped that.

You’re right. I’ve never understood this austerity thing. Create work, build stuff, make the country better and in doing so create wealth.

  2. It’s what Tories do. You might as well complain about scorpions stinging. It’s their nature and even if it wasn’t they’d do it anyway because they enjoy it. The Tories have hammered unemployed and disabled people relentlessly without compunction. But the minute Tories lost seats in the last GE well Theresa May was concerned about those ones with no jobs and even employed some. Grrhhh!!!

    1. I think that Mr May should treat everyone equally. Every unemployed person should be ennobled and given a job helping old Fluffy. Even then it wouldn’t be enough.

They’d still have to bring in the armed forces.

  3. Aneurin Bevan said, “No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.” I don’t think anyone has put it better.

    1. The Nye Bevan quote is one of my favourites too, and he had good and more than sufficient reasons for feeling that way. John Kenneth Galbraith, who’s another favourite of mine, did not grow up experiencing the English class system, and what he came out with was “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.” Selfishness, and greed too, of course, cf. Gordon Gekko’s “Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.”

I shall deliberately avoid like the plague any mention of camels and eyes of needles.

      1. That’s another good quote, Ed.

It occurs to me that if there is anything in the camels and eyes of needles thing, then hell must be jam packed full of rich people.

        1. (Adopts that holier-than-thou expression of pursed-lipped, I-just-sucked-on-a-lemon distaste and disapproval so beloved of Calvinist Sabbath-day-observance types and a subset of Scottish grannies) Definitely not OUR sort of people, eh, Tris?
