Dear Louise,

I suspect you were a fan. His death is sad, and he was indeed a talented poet and writer.

I presume that you have an in-depth knowledge of  the Russian Arts world and therefore I wouldn’t presume to argue with you about the relative merits of Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, Shalamov, etc, on the one hand, and  Steinbeck,  Williams, Miller and their likes, on the other.

It’s probably worth pointing out, though, that, erm,  Leonard Cohen was Canadian.

Kind regards

  1. Canadian, American, they’re all the same aren’t they? They sound alike too, well apart from those divisive French separatist ones.

I see she describes herself as a patriot. Isn’t that a bit, you know, nationalist?

    1. LOL Lanark. Persky people who insist on parlying francais. Damned cheek in an English country. Oh, wait a minute… didn’t they have their own native languages before the Europeans stole their land adn forced English and French on them?

A patriot? Hum, yeah. Cool. It’s not the first word that springs to mind when I think of her, but yeah, fine. And yup, it sounds very nationalist to me.

  2. Does anyone actually care what Ms Mensch has to say? I know I don’t. She couldn’t handle the obligations of being an MP, she can’t handle criticism on twitter, she is a bit of a living comedy reel surely?

    1. No. probably no one much cares, Dean.

I just thought that her rather pompous announcement about Russia, in such general terms, and the fact that she got it so spectacularly wrong, was deserving of a round of giggles from the Munguinites.

Living comedy reel seems to suit her nicely. Thank you.
